Company start-ups in Paris Region: up 78% in March

The number of new companies registered in Paris Region in March 2009 was significantly higher than in March 2008, showing an increase of 78%. After several months of decline, the start of 2009 has been marked by strong growth, doubtless due to the new “auto-entrepreneur” tax regime for small businesses/the self-employed  introduced with effect from 1 January.

Looking at the period from December 2008 to March 2009 the number of company start-ups in the region also showed a 25% increase over the equivalent four-month period in the previous year. However this growth rate is lower than that observed over the same period in the rest of France outside Paris Region (+36%). 

INSEE’s monthly economic report Conjoncture for March also includes an in-depth look at the information and communications sector. Even though relatively small, this business sector has one of the highest growth rates for company start-ups in the region, with an increase of 52% compared with the period from December 2007 to March 2008.

A prestige real estate development at Montevrain in Marne-la-Vallée

When international real estate fund management company CB Richard Ellis Investors chose Montevrain as a location, the result was Citalium and Citalys: two office developments meeting the very highest standards and covering a total area of more than 25,000 m² (269,000 sq.ft).

The services offered by Citalium and Citalys are worthy of a luxury hotel, including concierge, fitness centre, corporate restaurant, terraces, garden and more …and yet these are office blocks, not hotels. “Our driving ambition is to provide offices which are designed as living spaces, offering a wide range of personal services,” explains Laetitia George, asset manager for CB Richard Ellis Investors.

 The two developments fulfil this ambition to the letter, while also offering outstanding accessibility: “The location is a strategic one,” confirms Laetitia George, “connected to all the key transport modes”. Citalium and Citalys are both immediately adjacent to the RER A high-speed metro line, which means they are just 30 minutes from Paris, and also close to the Val d‘Europe retail complex, Disneyland Resort Paris, the A4 motorway and the TGV (high-speed rail) link serving Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport.

 

Of course a great deal of care went into choosing the architects for the project, who were Scau-Macary-Delamain. Their track record includes the Copernic II development in Noisy-le-Grand and, most famously, the Stade de France in Saint-Denis. For this Montevrain project the architects designed versatile, modular spaces housed within a luminous, contemporary design with facades combining glazing and terracotta cladding.

Last but not least of the buildings’ advantages is that the scheme’s environmental impact was taken into account right from the start: the HQE (high environmental quality) certification process is currently under way.

 Work on the site – acquired from EPAMARNE, the Marne-la-Vallée public development authority – started in February and is now in full swing. The project is being overseen by real estate developers Les Nouveaux Constructeurs and is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010. At a time when the global crisis has turned up the pressure on the real estate sector the sheer scale of this project may seem surprising: Citalys and Citalium offer areas of 10,000 m² (107,600 sq. ft)  and 15,000 m² (161,400 sq.ft) respectively. But CB Richard Ellis Investors have absolutely no doubt that they will be a success – and the facts would seem to be proving them right: Citalys has already been leased in its entirety, on a 12-year lease without break option.

Futur en Seine : Major event in Paris Region

Cap Digital, the Parisian Region Business Cluster for Digital Content and Services, launches the “Futur en Seine” first edition from May 29^th to June 7^th. “Futur en Seine” is a pioneering and popular cultural, technological and social event throughout the city of Paris and the surrounding region. Cap Digital has invited leading Parisian companies and research labs to present their innovative prototypes, digital technologies and demos in prestigious sites throughout the Ile-de-France during the Festival.

Over the festival, the “Futur en Seine” international program will bring together renowned international thinkers and visionaries with creatives and practitioners from leading European (and US) cities to discuss new approaches and prototypes, design new blue-prints, and formulate recommendations for a more “livable”, humane, and sustainable digital city of the future.

To op the international program on 30th/31st May, leading international thinkers will address these themes at the World Information City Conference which has chosen to hold its major annual event in Paris, with such eminent speakers as Saskia Sassen, Stephen Graham and Bruno Latour. This major event promises new insight and debate at the highest international level, and is a fitting way in which to open the international festival.
