Seine-Saint-Denis gears up to attract businesses

Seine-Saint-Denis gears up to attract businesses.Helped by some strong selling points and affordable real estate prices, the département's economic development agency Seine-Saint-Denis Future plans to make the most of the crisis to convince new businesses to set up in Seine-Saint-Denis. The agency has been set up to replace the economic expansion committee, now dissolved, and will have a budget of approximately €3 million. While Seine-Saint-Denis enjoys a privileged position to the east and north of Paris, making it Paris Region's third département in the number of business start-ups, there are nonetheless significant geographic disparities within the department itself. The Chairman of the departmental council (Conseil Général) therefore has the job of balancing the department's economic development to enable the area and excluded sections of the population to benefit. Seine-Saint-Denis Future will act as a gateway for businesses to move into the department and a driving force behind the economy of Seine-Saint-Denis.

Val-de-Marne / Essonne: work begins on Cœur d'Orly

Work has just begun on the Cœur d'Orly business district near Orly Airport, with the demolition of a disused building and a car park. Building work is scheduled to start late 2009. Cœur d'Orly will eventually comprise three office blocks and one mixed block of shops and businesses, a conference centre, a 4-star hotel and a combined shopping, services and leisure centre. The site will be developed in three phases. The first will involve the construction of 70,000 sqm of offices and 3,500 sqm of shops and services at ground floor level. Phase two concerns 40,000 sqm of offices and a 30,000-sqm shopping, services and leisure facility. This phase is scheduled for completion in 2012-2013. An international conference centre is also planned. Work on Cœur d'Orly will be completed by 2011. The business district will be served by existing transport services (RER, Orly VAL) as well as by future facilities such as the Villejuif-Juvisy light rail link. When the project is completed, 10,000 people will work in this new business district in south Paris.

Seine-et-Marne: a booming service sector

Seine-et-Marne is a département of contrasts, with Fontainebleau in the south, Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport in the north, Provins in the east and Paris to the west. With a population of 1.2 million, Seine-et-Marne has an even spread of farming, tourism, manufacturing and commercial businesses. It is one of France’s five biggest wheat producing areas and boasts some major forestry operations. Seine-et-Marne also has a booming service sector, particularly in the tourism and commercial segments. Tourism relies on the regions historical sites and beauty spots, such as Provins and Fontainebleau, and on the tourist magnet of Disneyland Resort. With 60% of its area taken up by farmland, Seine-et-Marne has the most developed agricultural industry of Paris Region. The town of Melun is the site of the SNECMA aerospace research centre which, with almost 4,000 employees, is the département's largest industrial establishment. Thanks to its geographic location (on the TGV network with connections to Marne-la Vallée, crossed by several motorways and close to Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle International Airport), Seine-et-Marne has a large number of transport and logistics businesses. Finally, the development of two new towns (Marne-la-Vallée and Sénart) has prompted the emergence of burgeoning service clusters while the tourism sector boasts an attractive portfolio with a number of outstanding sites and a good selection of hotels. To find out more about Seine-et-Marne and relocation options, visit the Seine-et-Marne development
