Paris Region: Key Figures 2008

The Paris Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Chambre Régionale de Commerce et d'Industrie Paris Ile-de-France - CRCI), in partnership with the Institute for Urban Planning and Development of the Paris Ile-de-France Region (Institut d'Aménagement et d'Urbanisme - IAU) and INSEE, has just published the 2008 edition of its Paris Region: Key Figures brochure.

Located at the hub of European and global trade, Paris Region is France’s no.1 economic region and one of the top regions in Europe.
It offers many key advantages:
In 2006, Paris Region’s GDP accounted for more than 28% of France’s national GDP and 4.5% of the EU’s GDP, boosted by the presence of many multinational corporations and a high concentration of company head offices. It’s a highly attractive region – ranking no.2 in Europe for foreign direct investment;
– Paris Region is Europe’s leading labour pool, boasting a highly qualified workforce which includes nearly half of France’s executive personnel and nearly 35% of researchers in public institutions. The region also hosts many renowned higher education and research institutions (universities and the prestigious Grandes Écoles) in fields including IT, mathematics, telecommunications, the new energies, biotechnology, and international commerce;
– Paris Region has developed world-class infrastructures: it is Europe’s no.2 airport hub, and boasts the world’s most highly-developed state-of-the-art rail transport network – placing it within a few hours of 145 destinations – as well as an efficient and diversified local transport offer. The region also has 70 ports, making it Europe’s no.2 platform for river transport;
High-speed communications networks provide Paris Region’s businesses with optimum technological conditions for rapid expansion;
– Last but not least, Paris Region’s history and its cultural environment underpin its enduring popularity. Paris is the world’s leading tourist destination. It is also one of the global capitals for trade fairs, conventions and other exhibitions, hosting 1,700 such events in 2005.
